Privacy policy

The short version

Framebird doesn’t collect, store or sell your personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Video goes directly from your iPhone to your computer, over the USB cable or your local network, and never passes through our servers. We don’t operate any servers for Framebird.

Who we are

Framebird is developed and published by Sajad Shafi under the name BirdsCode (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Framebird iPhone app, the Framebird desktop app for Windows, and the Framebird pages of this website.

Questions about privacy: info@sajadshafi.com.

What the apps do with data

Camera video

When you start the camera, the iPhone app captures video and sends it straight to the computer you connected, over the connection you chose:

  • USB: through the cable, using Apple’s USB device service on your computer.
  • Wi-Fi: over your local network, directly between the two devices.

Video is shown on your computer and passed to the apps you select it in. Framebird doesn’t record, save or upload it. Framebird doesn’t use the microphone.

Device information shared between your own devices

To connect and show a clear status, the two apps exchange a small amount of information with each other, and only with each other:

  • The iPhone sends the computer: its device name and model, which cameras are available, battery level, charging state and thermal (temperature) state.
  • The computer sends the iPhone: the computer’s name, so the phone can show which computer it’s connected to.

This information is shown in the apps while they’re connected and isn’t stored afterwards.

Discovery on your local network

So your computer can find your iPhone over Wi-Fi, the iPhone app announces itself on your local network using Bonjour (mDNS), under your iPhone’s name. Other devices on the same network can see that announcement while the app is open, as with AirPlay or AirDrop. The announcement contains no other personal information.

Permissions

  • Camera (iPhone): to capture the video you send to your computer.
  • Local Network (iPhone): so your computer can find and connect to the phone over Wi-Fi.

You can turn either off at any time in iPhone Settings → Framebird. Without them, the app can’t stream.

What we don’t do

  • No accounts or sign-in.
  • No analytics, advertising identifiers, or third-party SDKs that collect data.
  • No crash reporting built into the apps.
  • No sale or sharing of personal data, because we don’t hold any.

Information we may receive

  • App stores: Apple and Microsoft distribute Framebird and handle downloads under their own privacy policies. If you’ve allowed it in your device’s settings, they may share aggregated statistics and anonymous crash reports with us. We use these only to fix problems.
  • Email: if you contact us, we receive your email address and whatever you include, such as logs or screenshots. We use it only to reply and to fix the problem, and delete it when it’s no longer needed.
  • This website: the hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and reliability. The Framebird pages set no cookies.

Children

Framebird isn’t directed at children under 13, and it doesn’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because Framebird doesn’t store personal data about you, there’s normally nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you’ve emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, or have any privacy request, write to info@sajadshafi.com and we’ll respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If Framebird starts handling data differently, we’ll update this page and change the date below before that version of the app is released. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
